Summary
After Receiving his undergraduate degree, Balaji worked for two years in the laboratory of Dr. Sujatha Narayanan at the National Institute for Research in Tuberculosis in Chennai, where he had characterized mycobacterial repressor. In 2009, he moved to sunny San Diego to enroll in the masters program at San Diego State University. In the laboratory of Dr. Mark Sussman at SDSU, he studied asymmetric cell division and mitosis in cardiac progenitor cells for his thesis. In summer 2012, he joined Dr. Gene Yeo’s laboratory as a Staff Research Associate to study RNA-protein interaction for ENCODE project. For this project, he has been characterizing antibodies against RNA binding proteins (RBPs) and optimizing CLPseq methods to study RNA-protein interaction using next generation sequencing techniques.
