Summary

Elaine began her career as an undergraduate using electrogretiograms to study retinal degeneration in Drosophila in the lab of Nansi Colley at UW Madison. She then moved to The Scripps Research Institute in La Jolla to work for Bruce Beutler, using forward genetics mouse models to identify novel innate immunity pathways. As a graduate student in the Biomedical Sciences program at UCSD, Elaine has been primarily interested in neurodegenerative disease, using cell models to elucidate mechanisms of protein aggregation and propagation. She is also interested in exploring CRISPR/Cas9 based technologies for the treatment of human genetic disorders.
